Our Airbnb in Joshua Tree
Last month, while in California, my friends Paul and Stella Santiago of Boffo Video and I decided on a quick visit to Joshua Tree. We chose to stay at this Airbnb for its charm and affordability. The main cabin housed the kitchen, dining room, bathroom and a small living space with a futon that can sleep two.
At the back of the main cabin was the guest cabana that can accommodate two more people and an outhouse to its left. The biggest bonus to this Airbnb was the Cowboy Pool which was basically a 6ft round metal tub that's about 2ft high and managed to fit three adults comfortably well. Four would probably fit but expect little legroom.
The place had a fire pit in between the main house and the cabana where you can grill or build a fire, although the Airbnb listing specifically discourages it. If you choose to build a fire, make sure the fire is completely out before turning in for the night and never leave it unattended.
The entire property was decorated with cute little oddities that gave the the whole experience a western feel. There are motion activated lights outside the house and since we were in the desert, small animals and birds tend to set the lights off which can be unnerving if you're sleeping by yourself in the main house. Also, I have to mention that the bathroom has two doors, one that you can access from inside the house and one from outside. Both doors only lock from inside the bathroom. Don't do what I did and not make sure the outside door was properly shut and locked. I woke up at 2am to use the toilet and was shocked to see that the other door was wide open for anyone/anything to just wander in.
The best part was the toy Paul brought to the trip. Paul and Stella own their own videography business and brought their drone along. I've never seen a drone in action before and as much as I wanted to try and fly it, I was so afraid that I'd crash it that I just left it to the professionals. I pieced together some of the footage it captured. Watch it below.
